Fondation Hirondelle employs 213 staff worldwide of about 20 different nationalities:
- 16 people at its headquarters in Lausanne,
- 16 expatriates in project countries,
- 181 journalists, presenters, technicians, managers, drivers and other local staff under contract (staff numbers given are equivalent full time posts as at end December 2010).
To these should be added about 50 people hired as correspondents, replacement staff or interns.
In 2010, Fondation Hirondelle’s annual budget was CHF 9 million. Most of its revenue came from institutional donors, who contributed 95% of the budget in 2010. Fondation Hirondelle has recently taken steps to diversify its funding sources through private funders (individual donors, companies and foundations), so as to support its development and the sustainability of its projects. In 2010, more than 90% of overall expenditure went to projects in-country, while the remainder went to cover headquarters operating costs and exchange rate fluctuations.
