The profession was invented at the end of the 19th century.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alain Clavier, a Professor of history at the University of Fribourg since 2003, is a specialist in the history of the media, the world of ideas and publishing in Switzerland. He holds a degree in political science from the University of Lausanne. His thesis, presented in 1993, is entitled &#8220;<em>The Helvetists. Intellectuals and politics in French-speaking Switzerland at the beginning of the century<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>A contributor to the French-language newspaper <em>Le Nouveau Quotidien<\/em> (1991-1995), Alain Clavien was also a lecturer at the Institute of Journalism and Communication at the University of Neuch\u00e2tel (2001-2005).<\/p>\n<p>Director of numerous academic contributions, he is the author of several books, including &#8220;<em>La presse romande<\/em>&#8221; (Antipodes, 2017), &#8220;<em>Grandeurs et mis\u00e8res de la presse politique<\/em>&#8221; (Antipodes, 2010), &#8220;Histoire de la &#8220;Gazette de Lausanne&#8221;. <em>Le temps du colonel<\/em>, 1874-1917&#8243;, (L&#8217;Aire, 1997) and the co-author of &#8220;<em>Histoire g\u00e9n\u00e9rale.
