In Fondation Hirondelle\u2019s studios, music plays an essential role: it accompanies programmes, enriches cultural broadcasts, and helps strengthen social cohesion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Showcasing Local Artists and Musical Cultures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Music programmes highlight national artists and regional musical cultures. In Burkina Faso, <strong>Adams Ouedraogo<\/strong>, Editor-in-Chief of <strong>Studio Yafa<\/strong>, emphasises this approach: \u201cMusic is integrated into our different types of content, and the aim is to promote Burkinab\u00e8 culture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is also the approach of <strong>Studio Kalangou<\/strong>, whose programme <em>Le Niger sur Kalangou<\/em> provides artists and specialists from Niger\u2019s musical scene with a dedicated space. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studiokalangou.org\/138315-musique-nigerienne-justice-zinder-mobilites-djoure-niger-kalangou?fbclid=IwY2xjawOKY61leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEezZ0QbwJTZMlHnbRljJcC2onkhbZ08qVI9YT9iGdt46KhZ4id1_ATN3qNzpU_aem_F0bRYImJG6YHz4s_4Cn5oA\">On 17 November, for example, the programme hosted High Man<\/a>, an activist artist who encourages young people to adopt responsible behaviour in society through his lyrics, as well as Souleymane Salha, an influential figure in Nigerien musical culture. \u201cToday, I see that young Nigeriens mainly listen to Nigerien music,\u201d the latter pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mali, culture is also in the spotlight through thematic reports. <strong>Studio Tamani<\/strong> recently dedicated a feature to the return of the international festival Triangle du Balafon in Sikasso, a regional event revived after eight years of interruption. Listen to the full <em>Club Tamani<\/em> programme on this topic:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.hirondelle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Club-Tamani-17102025.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Radio Ndeke Luka (RNL), a Platform for Young Artists in CAR<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Central African Republic, RNL launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/live\/?ref=watch_permalink&amp;v=1325832985429632\">a new programme, <em>Nouveaux Talents<\/em><\/a>, broadcasted for the first time on 23 April. Its host and producer, <strong>Martinien Wod\u00e9<\/strong>, describes its ambition: \u201cThis programme helps identify and promote young Central African musical talents. It offers music enthusiasts the opportunity to perform the song of their choice. It is a platform for discovery and a springboard for the artists of tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-image-fill-element\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 35%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>The selection process for musicians is participatory: candidates contact the radio through its landline, via WhatsApp, or on social media. They may also be spotted during the radio\u2019s field trips or at karaoke concerts. Its founder, Solea Damas, recalls the importance of preserving this heritage: \u201cAn artist must be an ambassador of their culture. Owning an instrument is like holding a fragment of history.\u201d These initiatives help revive traditional sounds and pass on a musical memory that is sometimes at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Giving a Voice to Committed Artists<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Music-focused programmes also bring hope to listeners. In Burkina Faso, <em>Faso Yafa<\/em>, <strong>Studio Yafa<\/strong>\u2019s weekly magazine, hosts an artist each week in its Music Live segment. The guest shares their latest projects, style, and values. According to Adams Ouedraogo, \u201clive on air, the artist can even improvise a song around the theme of the programme, such as forgiveness or sharing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among these artists is Ali Traor\u00e9, known as <strong>Ali Ponr\u00e9 Ier<\/strong>, a singer and comedian living with a disability. Through his socially engaged music, he works to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusion: \u201cI started rap in 1994. It was an act of commitment to denounce stereotypes and the challenges faced by people with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;We must not forget that music is a powerful channel to reach many people&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Democratic Republic of Congo, <strong>Studio Hirondelle RDC<\/strong> dedicated<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/861404177054786\"> a video interview in November to the musician King Jimento<\/a>, an anti-corruption activist also known as <strong>Jimmy Kand\u00e9<\/strong>. \u201cWe must not forget that music is a powerful channel to reach many people,\u201d he explains. His songs range from themes of love to issues the country is facing: \u201cThe idea is to celebrate while remaining aware of the challenges of our continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the ancient notes of a balafon to the flow of an engaged rapper, the music resonating across Fondation Hirondelle\u2019s airwaves tells countless stories.
