Limited access to the field, growing insecurity, political pressure, and the scarcity of reliable sources are deeply undermining the production of independent information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the occasion of the publication of <a href=\"https:\/\/rsf-ch.ch\/le-classement-mondial-de-la-liberte-de-la-presse-au-plus-bas-depuis-sa-creation-il-y-a-25-ans\/\">the new World Press Freedom Index<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rsf-ch.ch\/\">Reporters Without Borders Switzerland <\/a>organized a bilingual roundtable discussion held in Bern on Thursday, April 30, on the theme: <a href=\"https:\/\/rsf-ch.ch\/evenement-rsf-le-30-avril-a-berne-journalisme-en-zones-de-conflit-mission-impossible\/\">\u201cJournalism in Conflict Zones: Mission Impossible?\u201d<\/a>, in which Fondation Hirondelle took part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Luzia Tschirky<\/strong>, former SRF correspondent in Eastern Europe, <strong>Serge Michel<\/strong> (Heidi.news), who has reported notably from Africa, Ukraine, Iran, and Afghanistan, <strong>Monika Bolliger<\/strong> (Republik), a specialist on the Middle East, as well as <strong>Sacha Meuter<\/strong>, Head of Research and Policy at Fondation Hirondelle, shared their analyses and field experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion highlighted the concrete realities of journalistic work in conflict-affected contexts, as well as the growing challenges faced by information professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"5712\" height=\"4284\" data-id=\"26330\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hirondelle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_2526.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26330\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"26327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hirondelle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_2354-scaled-e1777994660475.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26327\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-small-font-size\"><em>Photographs : \u00a9 RSF Suisse<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In many regions of the world, practicing journalism is becoming an increasingly complex challenge.
